Danish light in Milan 2011

Visitors to the Still Light exhibition are invited to experience an enlightening Danish design installation, presenting 100 Danish pendants from 19 companies and 52 designers.

Still Light will take place at Officina 1 – Tortona Locations, Opificio 31, via Tortona 31, Zona Tortona on April 12th – 17th, 2011. Press preview April 11th
h: 3 – 7 pm.

All 100 pendants are examples of vivid Danish design demonstrating a diversity of shapes, materials and new, sustainable light sources.

Pendants ranging from Le Klint 101 by Kaare Klint (1944) and Flowerpot by Verner Panton (1968) to new releases from talents like Cecilie Manz, Salto & Sigsgaard and Refer & Staer are presented in a luminous lightscape, showcasing design from handmade lamp shades to high tech rubber production.

As natural light in Scandinavia is scarce and characterized by subtle softness, the pendant, as design object has always fascinated designers from the North, and each individual luminaire is telling a story about how artificial light has contributed in orchestrating our homes and lives interacting with design and architecture.

“Still Light conveys the richness and variety in Danish design, showing examples of objects that are timeless bestsellers whether they are designed at present or 50 years ago. Design is central to all industries and especially the Danish lighting-industry has been successful in creating new competitive products as well as re-launching icons”, says Christian Scherfig, CEO, Danish Design Centre.
