CHALLENGE
In spring 2010 construction work begins that is to pave the way for the next stage of the Copenhagen metro system: Cityringen. Cityringen is the largest construction project in Danish history and will affect everyday life for 500,000 Copenhageners until its completion in 2018. Some will be more affected than others, but there is no doubt that many people will experience adverse effects. In order to spare the Copenhageners unnecessary chaos and frustrations the company Metroselskabet asked the digital design company Creuna to help develop an overall communication plan.
PROCESS
The redesign of Metroselskabet’s Cityringen-website is part of the strategy as is the implementation of a communication plan which will offer Copenhageners more detailed information and the possibility of planning for disruptions. On the website, citizens can write their address and receive updates on the construction within the specified area radius.
Also, the development process includes different activities such as anthropological research, interviews with neighbours of both the previous and the future construction site, shooting of a film to explain the vision that forms basis for Cityringen, workshops with conservation personnel and the personnel who are in contact with the citizens directly affected.
RESULT
When a construction project of this magnitude takes over much of our capital, timing and creative thinking are of the essence. Therefore, the overall communication concept, dubbed ‘Tæt på’ (Up close), unfolds in stages. Together, Metroselskabet and Creuna determine the optimum timing for the development of initiatives from a large bank of ideas. Thus, the concept will be gradually developed and implemented throughout 2012.
