CHALLENGE
Traditional teaching facilities are standardised and do not meet the needs of individual pupils for learning and thinking in different ways.
Total reorganisation of Ordrup School focusing on the creation of differen-tiated learning environments with room to think and learn in different ways.
FINDINGS
The physical surroundings must meet the needs of the pupils for learning and thinking individually.
New, more flexible ways of teaching and communication will arise through creating a more dynamic framework for teaching and learning.
Schools must function on the background of a more flexible, dynamic framework that promotes the exchange of knowledge, innovation and creative thought.
SOLUTION
The designers created rooms and areas for varied teaching methods and creative thought. Padded lighting installations invite pupils to sit in peace and concentration, while movable strips of carpet create temporary areas for discussion and collaboration. Pupils can work together in small forums or withdraw elsewhere to read and work undisturbed in concentration areas. Wheeled sofa groups can be moved about and used for group work, discussions or for watching films. Separating activities and creating differen-tiated rooms provided the space for flexible, diversified teaching.
