The Pill Box – a box full of information

New communication tools can improve communication between hospital and patient during the time spent in the waiting room. This ensures a positive first experience for the patient, which has positive effects for the rest of the process in the hospital.

CHALLENGE
Up to 40% of all complaints in the healthcare system are about poor communication.

How can hospitals give patients a more dignified experience during their admission and while they are ill?

FINDINGS
Communication with the patient is currently almost exclusively about illness, operations and medicine, and does not deal holistically with the patient.
When the patient’s first experience is good this results in a positive effect on the patient’s subsequent progress and helps create the foundation for successful communication between doctor and patient.
Future hospitals must improve their communication to deal holistically with the patient. This generates peace of mind and self esteem in the patient.

SOLUTION
“The Pill Box – a box full of information” is a practical communication tool designed on the need to create better communication from the hospital to the patient during the patient’s stay in the waiting room.
The box contains useful information and news from the hospital as well as good advice, fun and relevant entertainment. Easy and inexpensive to produce, the box can be adapted to individual hospitals and departments or wards. The contents can be varied and further developed as well as adapted and prioritised to suit children and young people or adults. The Pill Box plays a large role in terms of creating a positive experience in the waiting room for the patient.
