Life quality and health in the future local authorities

In Faxe Municipality, SIGNAL arkitekter involved the users and stakeholders in the design of a creative, innovative and interdisciplinary healthcare centre.

CHALLENGE
More small, local hospitals are closing. To offer the public a sense of security in case of illness and hospitalisation, treatment is gathered at a few large, highly specialised hospitals.

How can a local authority gather the health sector skills needed for offering new, innovative treatments and exploit limited medical resources better?

FINDINGS
Local authorities’ visionary approach to preventive health measures, patient treatment and rehabilitation often requires comprehensive collaboration between local, regional and private parties.

Healthcare skills are often scattered, which causes confusion and difficulties for the public. User profiles with example cases can help sharpen the professional profile and the composition of health centre services.

Co-ordination across the involved parties will be increasingly important to ensuring high professional standards and exchange of knowledge.

SOLUTION
Users and interested parties were involved in the health centre soon to built. Workshops made it possible to determine which common facilities were needed and which functions should be located in the individual units. The possibilities for value-based partnerships for the services that the health centre was to
provide to the public were also studied.
Based on such demand analyses and a reassessment of the service concept, an general plan with a strategy for future scenarios for the health centre was developed. Potential future interested parties/partnerships were also indicated.
