The digital Denmark

Together with the Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority, the design agency 1508 has worked to improve communication and procedures between companies and local and national government offices. That has resulted in several new proposals for digital service concepts.

CHALLENGE
Every year, Denmark loses millions of Danish kroner because of lack of communication and efficient work procedures between private and public sectors.

Many people think, “There must be a better way” when the paperwork for driving licenses, holiday allowances or wage subsidies has to be dealt with. The aim of this project is to create solutions that put emphasis on service rather than administration to ensure that the public uses the new solutions, thereby speeding up the strategy to digitalise.

FINDINGS
Six business activities were chosen based on user experiences of the processes involved and include wage subsidies, building projects, holiday allowances, booking driving tests, starting a food business and payments to and from the public sector.

The main problems of the existing practices and processes were identified, and the administrative tasks of both the businesses and the public sector were established.

The study resulted in a number of proposals for ideal business processes based on user scenarios and user-validated concepts.

SOLUTION
A number of digital service concepts were developed to streamline the processes for private as well as public companies through e.g. data co-ordination, digitalised workflow and simplification. One of the concepts is called ‘1 Click’ and reduces reporting and application processes to a single click for administrative staff employees.
Business cases were developed for the six business activities and processes and they show both a reduced burden on the businesses and annual savings in the form of triple-digit millions. Several of the processes have now been
implemented.
