New design favorites

We encounter and use design in all aspects of our everyday life. But what is it that holds our fascination? And what are the design products that many of us like? And why are we buying these products instead of other ones?

A common feature in all the 10 selected design products is that they were created during the first 10 years of the 21st century, and that they are some of the most characteristic new favourites in the Danish homes. They all have the potential to become future design icons.

GUBI Chair, 2003

Design KOMPLOT
Manufacturer Gubi A/S, www.gubi.dk

The Stingray chair is a modern interpretation of the classic rocking chair. Inspired by a clam shell, Stingray’s design has an organic form, rough on the outside and smooth and delicate on the inside. The rocking chair is made in fibre glass.

Cartoon, 2008

Design GamFratesi
Manufacturer Swedese Möbler AB, www.swedese.se

This chair was designed by the Danish-Italian duo Gamfratesi, and many place it in the same league as Arne Jacobsen’s design icons, the Ant chair and the No. 7 chair. Cartoon’s large backrest makes the name a perfect match for the aesthetic expression.

Caravaggio, 2005

Design Cecilie Manz
Manufacturer Lightyears A/S, www.lightyears.dk

Caravaggio provides direct light without any unpleasant glare. Of course, the pendant lamp also contributes to the general lighting in the room thanks to the up-light at the top. The goal with the series was to create a simple, soft shape for a small and a large pendant lamp.

Design Karen Kjældgaard-Larsen
Manufacturer Royal Copenhagen A/S, www.royalcopenhagen.com

Boston, 2007

Design Jens Martin Skibsted
Manufacturer Biomega A/S, www.biomega.dk

Mobility and strength are the keywords for Biomega’s bicycle Boston. The bike can be folded, which makes it easy to handle on the bus, in the office, etc. It has no chain, and a wire lock that is integrated into the frame makes the bike impossible to steal.
